Briton 'kidnapped' by Taliban in Afghanistan

A Briton has reportedly been kidnapped by the Taliban in Afghanistan.

According to reports, a Briton and two Afghans have been kidnapped in the Helmand province in the south of the country.

Initial reports suggest that the group may be journalists. According to reports, the two Afghans are known to work as translators with western journalists. Named in media reports as Ajmal and Syed Agha, they are understood to have been reported missing.

However, there have also been conflicting reports suggesting that a Briton is not involved in the kidnapping.

A local Taliban spokesperson is reported to have said that the three men were detained in Nad Ali in the Helmand province because they had enterted the district without permission.

Nad Ali is one of the main areas where the opium poppy is grown.

The Foreign Office has said that they are aware of the reports and are looking into them.
