Doctor remanded over terror attacks
A doctor charged in connection with the failed car bombings in London and Glasgow has been remanded in custody.
Dr Sabeel Ahmed, 26, from Liverpool, appeared at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court accused of having information, which could have helped police arrest a suspected terrorist.
Dr Ahmed's solicitor told the court that his client planned to plead not guilty to the charge. He was remanded in custody to face another hearing next month.
The attempted attacks took place last month. On June 29, two cars containing petrol, gas cylinders and nails, were discovered in London, while on the day after, a burning Jeep was driven into the doors of the main terminal of Glasgow airport.
Iraqi doctor Bilal Abdullah was remanded in custody on July 7 charged with conspiracy to cause explosions.
In Brisbane, Australia, a third doctor, Mohammed Haneef, 27, was charged with providing support to a terrorist organisation in connection with the attacks.
He was granted bail at Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday, but will have to remain behind bars under Australia immigration law.
In the UK, police are continuing to hold Dr Mohammed Asha, who was arrested on the M6 motorway in Cheshire on June 30. He is being held at London's high security Paddington Green police station and police have until July 21 to continue questioning him.
His wife, Marwa Asha, 27, who was arrested at the same time, was released without charged last week.
Kafeel Ahmed, 27, who was badly burned in the attack at Glasgow airport, remains under police guard in hospital. He is still in a critical condition.
Two trainee doctors, aged 28 and 25, who were arrested at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, two days after the Glasgow attack have also been released without charge.
