Man Jailed Over Security Guard Murder

A man who stabbed a security guard to death in a music store in Norwich has been jailed for 24 years.

David Watson, 20, stabbed 30-year-old Paul Cavanagh in the neck after he was caught attempting to steal a CD from a HMV store in Norwich on December 18 last year.

Mr Cavanagh, from Rockland St Mary in Norfolk, suffered a knife wound, which severed a jugular vein as he tried to restrain Watson.

The court heard how Watson, from Hackney, east London, had a bag containing nearly £1,500 worth of crack cocaine with him at the time of the attack and was afraid of it being discovered if he was arrested.

Watson had denied murder, but was found guilty at Norwich Crown Court on Monday. He was also found guilty of wounding a second security guard during the same attack.

He is due to be sentenced on Tuesday afternoon.
