Three Remanded Over Sunderland Street Murder

Three people have been remanded in custody charged with the murder of a man with learning difficulties who was beaten to death in Sunderland.

Brent Martin, 23, died in hospital after being attacked by a gang in the Town End Farm estate.

He was found in the street by police suffering from multiple injuries. The attack was described as "sustained and brutal".

William Hughes, 21, of Washington Road in Sunderland and two teenagers, aged 16 and 17, who cannot be named, appeared before Sunderland Magistrates' Court on Monday.

All three were remanded in custody to appear before Newcastle Crown Court next month.

A 47-year-old and a 17-year-old boy were also arrested in connection with the case but have been released on bail.

It is believed that Garry Newlove, 47, was attacked after he confronted youths outside his home in Station Road North in Warrington on Friday night.

Sunderland Footballer Assaulted Women, Court Hears
A Premier League footballer is in court on charges of sexual assault. Teesside Crown Court heard Titus Bramble, who plays for Sunderland, groped a woman in club and sexually assaulted another in a taxi, putting his hand on her leg and her hand over his crotch. The offences are alleged to have happened in Yarm on September 28.

UK Property Prices 'Still Falling'
House prices in the three months to October were 1.2% lower than in the preceding three months, according to the Halifax. The financial services provider, part of the Lloyds Banking Group, said prices in October were 2.3% lower than at the end of 2009 on a seasonally adjusted basis (-1.2% unadjusted).

Milly Accused Remanded
The man facing trial over the murder of schoolgirl Milly Dowler has been remanded in custody. Levi Bellfield, 41, is accused of kidnapping and murdering the 13-year-old in 2002. Bellfield, a former nightclub doorman, appeared in court this morning to hear the charges against him.
