Nursing Home Deaths: Man Held

A murder investigation has begun following the deaths of two residents at a nursing home in Leicester.

Detectives are questioning a 19-year-old man on suspicion of murder after the bodies of the two women were found at the Hayes Park Nursing Home yesterday.

A member of staff rang 999 after the discovery at the home in Rowlatts Hill.

The two victims have not been named. Post-mortem examinations are under way at Leicester Royal Infirmary.

Police said the suspect was local to the area and Det Supt Chris Thomas, who is leading the investigation, said: "This is a serious incident. There is a large cordon and we are carrying out a detailed examination at the home.

"Officers have [spoken] with members of staff and other residents at the home and we are piecing together the information we are being given to establish the last known movements of the victims."

A spokesman for the nursing home said staff and directors were co-operating fully with the investigation.

"The staff at the home have contacted relatives of residents to reassure them about the situation and to advise them that the home is operating as usual," he said.
