Liverpool Star Gerrard's Home Burgled
The home of Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard was burgled last night, it has been reported.
The 27-year-old footballer was in France, playing a Champions League match against Marseilles, when his home in Formby, Merseyside was targeted.
Gerrard's wife, Alex Curran, was in the house at the time the burglary took place, and is believed to have been left shaken, but uninjured, in the incident.
Merseyside Police confirmed that four men entered the house shortly before 9.30pm on Tuesday and stole a number of items of jewellery.
The burglars were described as white, between 5ft 7ins and 5ft 9ins in height and were wearing dark clothing, hoods and balaclavas.
Gerrard is the latest Liverpool player to have his home targeted by burglars.
Striker Dirk Kuyt's house in Woolton was burgled while he was playing an international match for his home country Holland three weeks ago.
Defender Daniel Agger's home in Caldy, Wirral, was robbed last September, while Peter Crouch's house in Alderley Edge was robbed in the same month while he was away playing for England.
Former Liverpool goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek's Merseyside home was also burgled in June 2006, while the club's current goalkeeper Pepe Reina had his house burgled while he was playing in Liverpool's Champions League semi-final against Chelsea in May.
