Man Is Rescued From Cyanide Vat

A 62-year old man is in a critical condition in hospital after falling into a vat of cyanide in his workplace.

Firefighters were called to metal plating specialists Karas Industries, in Leigh, Greater Manchester, following reports of the accident.

After hosing down the man they carried out decontamination procedures in the premises.

The man was pulled from the vat by his two work colleagues, who were later treated for shock.

Cynanide can cause fatal cardiac arrests if ingested.

Police said he was taken to Royal Bolton Hospital.

An investigation has been opened and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) informed.
