Diana Bodyguard Plea Ignored
A bodyguard once responsible for the protection of Princess Diana has revealed that he was frustrated that his call for extra security was ignored.
Kieran Wingfield, a former Royal Marine, said his call for security help was turned down amid calls for a "low key" trip.
Mr Wingfield, known as Kes, told the inquest into her death of his frustrations relating to the cruise on Mohamed Al Fayed's luxury yacht, the Jonikal, in the summer of 1997.
"I believe eight was the minimum required for the task on the Jonikal. Not because [they were] staying on the boat, [but] in the evening the couple went ashore and that's when we would have really needed the eight," he said.
Mr Wingfield said he and colleague Trevor Rees were left alone to guard Diana and her companion on their Mediterranean cruise.
The extra manpower had been needed to assess the destinations the couple had wanted to visit and provide Mr Wingfield and Mr Rees - formerly Trevor Rees Jones - with time off.
Mr Wingfield told the hearing: "I suggested to Mr [Al] Fayed that was not enough to provide adequate cover. His words to me were 'I want this to be low key. It's only going to be for two or three days'."

Sex Attack Accused Killed By Girl
The Old Bailey has heard how a girl, 14, killed a man in his home after learning he would not be charged for an alleged sex attack on her. Robert Daley, 45, was informed that his case had been dropped by prosecutors, the same day the defendant and a 14 year old boy visited his flat in Stockwell, south London. Mr Daley, was later found stabbed.
