Drowning Probed
There has been a tragic drowning in England as a seven-year-old girl has died after being found unconscious in a swimming pool.
The girl, from the Isle of Dogs area of London, died on Saturday following an incident at a leisure centre in Maldon, Essex.
Paramedics were called at about 2pm, but were unable to revive the girl. She was pronounced dead in hospital about an hour later. Police said last night her death was not suspicious.
An Essex Police spokeswoman said: "It has been determined that a police investigation is no longer required."
She said information would now be passed to the coroner and Maldon District Council.
Graham Farrant, Chief Executive of Leisure Connection, which runs the centre on behalf of Maldon District Council, said: "All our thoughts and sympathies are with the family.
"We're working closely with the police and the local council. The centre will remain closed while this vital investigation takes place."

London bombings ‘suspect’ charged
A man arrested last weekend in connection with the July 7 London bombings has been charged with wasting police time. Imran Patel, 27, from Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, was arrested last Saturday, on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of an act of terrorism. The arrest followed a tip-off from the ‘News of the World’.

An 11-month-old baby has died after being mauled by a pet dog, police in Lancashire have said. The baby girl, from Emily Street in Blackburn, died in hospital at about 23:00 on Monday. Police have arrested a 26-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman on suspicion of child neglect in connection with the incident.

Madeleine's Mother Questioned By Police
Kate McCann, the mother of missing British girl Madeleine McCann, is being re-interviewed by Portuguese police. Her husband, Gerry McCann, will be re-interviewed tomorrow. Mrs McCann arrived at Portimao police station in the Algarve at 2pm local time on Thursday. She was accompanied by her lawyer Carlos Pinto de Abreu.
