Man Charged With Pensioner's Murder
A man has been charged with the murder of an elderly man. Harold Lindley, 89, was found by neighbours with serious facial injuries after being badly beaten in Walker Grove, Walker, on April 17. The pensioner died of his injuries in hospital a month after the incident. Twenty-year-old Michael Stephenson, of Westbury Avenue is due to appear at Newcastle Magistrates' Court on Friday charged with his murder.
Mr Stephenson had earlier been remanded in custody with two charges of robbery and grievous bodily harm. A post mortem examination into the cause of Mr Lindley's death proved "inconclusive". Further tests have been carried out and the details will be released in due course.
Man Arrested After Woman's Body Is Found
Police are investigating the death of a young woman who was found at a property in Newcastle. Officers found the body of a 26-year-old woman at Bramwell Court, Gosworth, in the early hours of Wednesday morning. It is understood the woman was stabbed to death. A news report said that around 10 police cars were sent to the second floor flat where officers made the grim discovery. Northumbria Police said in a statement that although she has yet to be identified, it is believed the dead woman is Nicola Morrin. "At this stage it's believed she died of stab wounds although a post mortem will be carried out later today to confirm the cause of her death," it read. A 36-year-old man also at the address has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is helping police with their enquiries. Police say he is currently in hospital receiving treatment for injuries.

Baby Death Mother Named
The British woman charged with causing the death of her newborn baby in a hotel room in Crete has been named. Leah Andrew, from London, has been charged with infantide after being arrested in Malia on Tuesday. Ms Andrew was rushed to hospital by local residents after giving birth alone in her room.

Teenagers Killed In Wakefield Double Murder
Police have revealed that the two females found dead in a flat in West Yorkshire were both teenagers and had been stabbed. The bodies of Samantha Sykes, 18, and Kimberly Frank, 17, were discovered in a flat in Barden Road, Eastmoor after police received a tip-off from another 19-year-old woman in Dover.

Man And Woman Held Over Death Of Two-Year-Old
The death of a two-year-old boy in Coventry has become a murder enquiry, police have reported. The child was admitted to the University Hospital Coventry on Monday with serious head injuries before being transferred to Birmingham Children's Hospital. The child died on Tuesday.

Man Arrested Over Woman's Death
A man has been arrested following the discovery of a woman's body in a property in Tameside, Greater Manchester. The woman's body was found at an address on Windermere Road, Hyde shortly after 6pm on Monday, after police went to investigate reports that a woman had been assaulted.

Body Found In Search For Missing Woman
A body has been discovered in Sutton Mill by police investigating the disappearance of Jennifer Hayman. The body was found at 18:00 on Thursday. Formal identification has not yet been made, but police said that Ms Hayman's family have been informed of the find. A post-mortem is due to be carried out to establish the cause of death.
