£1m Grants take Cyclists Further
Colchester, Exeter and Leighton-Linslade are to be given over £1 million of extra funding for cycling facilities, under plans announced today by Transport Minister Paul Clark. The three areas are part of the Department for Transport's 'Cycling Demonstration Towns' project, and already receive European levels of funding for cyclists. This announcement will allow them to develop local schemes further, encouraging more people to take to their bikes. The new facilities being introduced include extending the cycle network in Leighton-Linslade and a longer cycle route in Colchester. This will run from the North Colchester regeneration area through High Woods and the Country Park to Colchester railway station and on to the town centre providing commuters and shoppers alike with safe routes throughout.
Driving Tests Affected By Bad Weather
No practical driving tests have been conducted across most of Great Britain today because of the bad weather. A statement issued by the Driving Standards Agency, said as the test is designed to assess a driver's ability under normal conditions, it would be unfair to undertake the tests in the wintry conditions. Bad weather, such as ice and snow, do not allow examiners do this and could also compromise the safety of test candidates, examiners and other road users. Test routes are being checked regularly and testing may commence if the weather improves. Candidates who are affected will have their tests automatically rebooked and should receive confirmation from in approximately three working days. They can check the status of and manage their test appointments at www.direct.gov.uk/drivingtest.
