Female Teacher Arrested Over Alleged Sex Assault

A female teacher at one of London's top private school for girls has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a pupil.

The 26-year-old teacher at the City of London School for Girls has been suspended while police investigate the allegations.

The teacher from south London has not been named.

She was arrested on Monday on suspicion of sexually assaulting the child and has since been bailed.

A spokesman for the City of London Corporation, which owns the school, said: "A member of staff has been arrested following an investigation by police into an allegation of an inappropriate relationship with one of our students."

According to reports the teacher was said to have had an "inappropriate relationship" with a girl at the prestigious £13,000-a-year school in the heart of the capital's financial district.

A City of London Police spokeswoman said: "A 26-year-old woman from south London was arrested on July 20 on suspicion of sexual assault on a child. She has since been bailed and inquiries continue."

The school is for girls aged 7-18. Among its former pupils, are pop musician Dido, television presenter Claudia Winkleman and agony aunt Claire Rayner.

Man Jailed For Attempted Murder Of Pc
A south London man has been jailed for 25 years for tying to shoot a policeman. Michael Mitchell, 32, of Babington Road, Streatham, was convicted of attempting to murder Pc Shaun Callow, possession of a firearm and possession of drugs with intent to supply.

Man Shot By Police In East London
A man has been arrested in an east London hospital where he is being treated for gunshot wounds. It is understood that the man was shot by armed police at around 8.15pm in the Hale End Road in Walthamstow. Police had responded to reports of a man with a handgun.
