About Glenada Holiday & Conference Centre

Glenada is a real part of Newcastle’s rich history with Glenada House, the old part of the building still being used with the dining room, 2 syndicate rooms and lounge all still housed in this iconic building.

Glenada House was built to replace a previous building called Glenada Hotel. It was used to provide holidays for YWCA groups in the early 1900s and was owned by a Mr Gray who rented it to YWCA but a very low rate to enable the YWCA to provide these holidays.

Mrs Smyly & Mrs Livingstone were among the early managers and the current main conference room is named the Smyly Livingstone Room. Updated, new part of building was built in the early 2000s and comprises of most of the bedrooms, 2 Conference rooms, Reception, Office and servery and much of the old part of the building was renovated at this time.

Glenada boasts a 120 capacity conference room adjacent to the spacious reception with 3 further smaller conference rooms. We can host more than one smaller conference at a time or (subject to a minimum number) you can avail of the entire building and have all facilities for use exclusively by your group.

The main conference room has a projector, screen, sound system and DVD player. The other conference rooms and lounge have varying levels of equipment and this equipment is being upgraded so please speak to us with your requirements.

The conference rooms are used for various purposes and can be setup in many different ways to suit your requirements. Glenada is mostly used for weekend conferences (Fri-Sun) but midweek conferences are also popular with up to 70 people able to stay on-site in our ensuite rooms. Glenada has arrangement with other nearby accommodation if your conference is larger than this.

Glenada can accommodate up to 70 people in en-suite bedrooms and a further 15 people in dormitory style rooms. From April to September you can enjoy full-board holidays and mini breaks where all rooms are served by a lift and come with TV, telephone, hairdryer and hospitality tray. During Conferences these rooms provide accommodation for conference attendees ensuring that everything is under one roof and rest and relaxation is never too far away. For the benefit of guests with disabilities, specially designed and equipped bedrooms are available.

During the summer months, Glenada runs full board Christian Holidays with a speaker provided to lead meetings and help make guests feel welcome. Many of our guests come year after year to avail of the beautiful views, good food, fun and fellowship provided.

At this time Glenada is also available to other guests and holidaymakers normally on a Bed & Breakfast basis, often the location appeals to those looking for a quiet place to stay without the risk of a noisy atmosphere that a hotel may provide. In many cases we are happy to take care of additional requests such as providing indoor storage of bicycles or other equipment.
