Man Convicted Of Benefit Fraud

A man has been convicted at Ballymena Magistrates’ Court yesterday for claiming benefits he was not entitled to.

64-year-old Brian Surgenor of The Crescent, Ballymena claimed Disability Living Allowance totalling £2,427 while exaggerating disability. He was given a Conditional Discharge for three years.

He is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

Elderly Woman Shaken After Burglary

An elderly woman has been left shaken after her house in Merville Garden Village in Newtownabbey was burgled on Thursday evening

A number of masked men entered the property between 20:30 and 21:00 and took a sum of cash. A dark coloured Volkswagon Golf car was seen in the area at the time of the burglary. The elderly resident was not harmed but was left badly shocked.

Imitation Firearm Uncovered In Vehicle

The PSNI has recovered an imitation firearm following the search of a vehicle at Queens Quay in Belfast on Thursday evening.

A red BMW with three males on board was stopped at Queens Quay at around 17:15 on Thursday evening. A search was carried out and an imitation firearm discovered. The three men aged 28, 33 and 37 were subsequently arrested.

Traffic Restrictions In Place For Paddy's Parade

Belfast City Council has warned there will be a number of traffic restrictions in place in the city centre on 17 March due to the annual St Patrick's Day events.

There will be some disruption along the carnival procession route between 11:30 and 13:30. Donegall Place, Wellington Street, Donegall Square West, Wellington Place, Donegall Square North and Chichester Street will be closed to all traffic for the duration of the parade, and Victoria Street will be closed while the parade moves along it to the concert venue.

The parade will make its way out of City Hall grounds into Donegall Square North and Chichester Street, before turning into Victoria Street and finishing alongside the concert venue at Custom House Square.

Translink Metro will continue to operate a normal service.

Drivers should be aware of large volumes of pedestrians in and around the Custom House Square, Donegall Quay, High Street areas during the afternoon whilst the concert and family activities are taking place between 12:00 and 15:00.

Marathon organisers warn of traffic disruption
Organisers of this year's 22nd Belfast City Marathon are warning motorists of the expected traffic disruption throughout most of Bank Holiday Monday. Disruption can be expected along the routes of both the main Belfast City Marathon and the associated Fun Run which begins at City Hall.

Road users travelling through Belfast city centre this Saturday, 26 July, are advised to expect potential traffic disruption due to four planned parades and marches. The first parade is scheduled to depart Donegall Pass at around 10.

Traffic diversions will be put in place during the Christmas lights switch-on which is taking place in Belfast on Saturday, 19 November. Wellington Place, Donegall Square North, Donegall Square West, Chichester Street and Donegall Place will be closed between 5.30pm and 8.30pm.

Belfast Traffic Management Enters Final Phase
The final phase of Belfast city centre's traffic management arrangements is to get under way. The work to introduce new bus lanes as part of the Belfast on The Move initiative has now moved to Wellington Place, Chichester Street and Donegall Square East.
