Three People Charged Over £600,000 Cannabis Factory Raid

Three people have been charged after police discovered a cannabis factory in the Castlereagh area of east Belfast.

The discovery was made at commercial premises on Tuesday, 05 December, during a planned operation by detectives from the PSNI's Criminal Investigation Branch and officers from Immigration Enforcement.

Six people were arrested following the seizure of £600,000 worth of the alleged class B drug.

Three of the suspects have been released on police bail.

A 22-year-old man, a woman, aged 35, and a man, aged 40, have all been charged with a number of offences, including producing a class B controlled substance and assisting unlawful immigration.

The 22-year-old man has been charged with cultivating cannabis, possession of Class B drugs and possession of Class B drugs with intent to supply, producing a Class B drug and failing to observe Immigration Act restrictions.

The 35-year-old woman and 40-year-old man were charged with producing a Class B controlled drug and assisting unlawful immigration.

They are all due to appear before Ards Magistrates' Court on Thursday, 07 December.

Edward Kelly was sentenced to serve three-and-a-half years, half of his sentence will be served in custody and half will be served on licence, following his guilty plea last November.

Man Wanted In Ireland On Drug Offences Arrested In South Belfast
A 59-year-old man wanted in the Republic of Ireland has been arrested in south Belfast by the PSNI's International Policing Unit. Wanted to stand trial for drugs offences that occurred in the Kilkenny area in 2012.
