Police treat two separate flat fires as suspicious

Police are treating two separate fires, which led to the evacuation of flats in Londonderry on Thursday, as suspicious.

Several residents at flats in Melrose Terrace were evacuated from their homes at around 12.35am on Thursday.

Fire services were then called out again to the same set of flats at around 4am when a fire was reported the living room of one home.

Police investigate three overnight fires in Ballymena
Police in Northern Ireland are investigating the cause of three separate fires in Ballymena, County Antrim. In the first incident, a vacant house in the Sandown Park area of Ballymena was badly damaged in a fire which was discovered shortly after midnight on Friday August 10.

Mobile Phone Company O2 has today announced that it is to abolish roaming charges for mobile phone users living close to the border. This means that from April this year, the 1.6 million O2 customers can travel across the border without being charged more to make or receive calls.

Stranded boys rescued by lifeboat near Millisle
Two boys have been rescued off the Co Down coast after they became stranded on rocks on the Ards Peninsula. The boys, aged 12 and 14, got into trouble on Wednesday off the beach at Millisle but were eventually picked up by a Donaghadee lifeboat at around 10.30pm. The teenagers were stranded on rocks which had been surrounded by the incoming tide.

Two Men Charged Over Series Of Deliberate Fires
Detectives investigating a series of arsons across Belfast, Moira and Lisburn in January and February 2025 have charged two men to court. The men, aged 39 and 41, have been charged with offences including arson and conspiracy to commit arson. They were arrested following a police operation in west Belfast yesterday, Tuesday, 16 September.
