The Commissioner for Victims and Survivors, Joe McVey, recently took part in two significant SEFF events, creating valuable opportunities to reflect, remember and listen first-hand to victims and survivors.

He attended 'The Quiet Courage of Women', a service of remembrance, healing and hope at St Patrick’s Church of Ireland Cathedral in Armagh. The event recognised the remarkable strength, resilience and contribution of women throughout the Troubles/conflict, highlighting the vital role they played in supporting their families and communities during some of the most challenging times. A poignant feature of the service was the display of eight memorial quilts, representing more than 600 victims and survivors of the Troubles/conflict. Together, they served as a powerful reminder of lives forever changed and the enduring impact of the past on individuals, families and communities.

Continuing this engagement, the Commissioner also attended the SEFF East Region Members Meeting in Lisburn. The meeting provided an important opportunity to hear members’ experiences, discuss the issues that continue to affect victims and survivors, and engage directly with SEFF staff and members.

Listening to those with lived experience remains central to the Commission’s work. These conversations help shape future research, inform policy advice and ensure that the voices, experiences and priorities of victims and survivors continue to influence the Commission’s engagement with government and stakeholders.

The Commission thanked SEFF for the invitations to both events and for its continued commitment to supporting victims and survivors across Northern Ireland.
