£615,000 Resurfacing To Begin On A5 Beltany Road In Omagh
Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has confirmed a £615,000 carriageway resurfacing project on the A5 Beltany Road in Omagh will begin on Monday 17 August 2026.
The scheme will cover approximately 1.27 km, from Castletown Road to Mellon Road.
Minister Kimmins said: "This is a substantial investment of £615,000 in the A5 route and the Omagh area which will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users. The investment demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. I would like to thank residents, local businesses, and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out."
To ensure the works are delivered safely, temporary traffic management will operate from 17 to 31 August 2026. A daily lane closure will run from Monday 17 to Saturday 22 August between 9.30am and 4.30pm. From Monday 24 to Friday 28 August there will be a full road closure each day between 7.30am and 6.30pm. The road will also close on Saturday 29 August from 7.30am to 4.00pm and on Monday 31 August from 7.30am to 6.30pm. The carriageway will reopen each evening and remain open all day on Sundays.
During closures, signed diversions will be in place. Diversion northbound (to Strabane): B50 Gillygooley Road - B50 Omagh Road – Main Street, Drumquin - B50 Castlederg Road - B50 Drumquin Road - B72 Castlegore Road, B72 Lower Strabane Road, Castlederg – B72 Strabane Road - B72 Fyfin Road to A5. Diversion southbound (to Omagh): B46 Plumbridge Road – B46 Killymore Road B48 - Gortin - Glenpark Road – B46 Gortin Road – U1528 Strathroy Road – B48 Strathroy Link Road – B48 Derry Road to A5.
During the daily road closures from Monday 24 to Monday 31 August between 7.30am and 6.30pm, motorists wishing to access the Ulster American Folk Park should follow the northbound diversion and use the A5 from Newtownstewart. The carriageway will reopen at 4pm on Saturday 29 August to facilitate normal access to the Ulster American Folk Park for its 50th Anniversary Concert.
Drivers seeking access to the Sperrin Restaurant and Mountjoy Service Station during closures should use the southbound diversion and approach via the A5 from Omagh.
The Department has scheduled the works and traffic management to minimise inconvenience. While local access will be accommodated where possible, delays are expected and road users should allow extra time and comply with all temporary restrictions. Subject to favourable weather, the scheme is due to be substantially complete by 31 August 2026; any changes will be communicated.
