Man assaulted in South Belfast

A 19-year-old man has been injured during a serious assault in South Belfast.

The attack took place in an entry off Elm Street in the Donegal Pass area of the city.

Police were informed of the attack shortly after 8pm last night.

The man was taken to hospital where he was treated for injuries to his arms and legs, however they are not thought to be life threatening.

Detectives have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the attack to contact them at Donegal Pass on 0845 600 8000, or on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.

Meanwhile, a man is due to appear in Lisburn Magistrates Court later today charged with attempted robbery.

The charge relates to an incident on the Ballynahinch Road, when three men tried to rob an elderly couple in their home.

One of the other men is still being held by police pending further inquiries.

Man Shot In County Down
A 28-year-old man has been shot in the leg in a gun attack in County Down. The man was getting out of his car at the Quays in Killyleagh at about 1.00am on Wednesday morning when a man approached him and shot him. The man is recovering in hospital where his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Man Shot In Co L'Derry
A man has been shot in the ankle in Co L'Derry. The paramilitary-style attack happened near the Creggan shops at around 7.45pm on Thursday, 07 December. The 41-year-old man has been taken to hospital to be treated, however his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. Police described the shooting as "brutal and horrific".

Co Fermanagh man suffers broken nose in robbery
A Co Fermanagh man has suffered a broken nose after being assaulted by two men at his home in Enniskillen. The 65-year-old man was confronted by two men who forced their way into his home on Sunday. They then assaulted him before robbing his home. It is understood that a sum of money was taken during the robbery.

PSNI Welcomes Sentencing Of Paul Beggs
The PSNI have welcomed the sentence handed down to Paul Beggs today, Thursday 10 November, at Newry Crown Court. Beggs, aged 31, was sentenced to a total of 8 ½ years, half to be served in custody and half on licence, having previously pleaded guilty to offences, including arson, possession of a firearm, robbery and false imprisonment.
