Man hit with iron during attempted robbery

A 27-year-old man has been treated in hospital following an attempted robbery in County Antrim.

Four men broke into the victim's home on Thornhill Drive in Ballyclare at around midnight last night.

The robbers demanded the man's car keys, and then smashed a smoothing iron into the man's head. However, they left without taking the vehicle.

The man was later treated in hospital for his injuries, which are not thought to be life threatening.

The attackers are all thought to be in their early 20's. Two are believed to be around 6 feet tall, one of whom was dressed in jeans and a white t-shirt, and the other in a blue adidas t-shirt and jeans. The third man is described as being around 5' 6" in height, with short dark hair and was wearing a Northern Ireland home football shirt.

There is no description of the forth man.

Police in Newtownabbey have appealed for anyone with any information relating to the attack or who may have seen the four men in the area, to contact them on 0845 600 8000 or on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.
