Police investigating the abduction and murder of Nicola Payne in 1991 have arrested two men.

Ms Payne was 18 when she went missing on 14 December, more than 23 years ago.

Police confirmed that 51-year-old Nigel Barwell, of Copperas Street, Coventry, and 50-year-old Thomas O'Reilly, of Ribble Road, Coventry, have been charged with abducting and murdering the teenager.

It is understood the men were arrested in December and have been in custody since.

The investigation into Ms Payne's disappearance was re-opened in 2012 when new information came to light, police said.

Ms Payne's body has never been found but police said they will continue to search for her remains.
