Police Searching Lake In Nicola Payne Investigation

Police investigating the disappearance of Nicola Payne in 1991 are searching an area of water within Coombe Abbey Country Park.

It is understood that Home Office scientists have already conducted a preliminary sonar examination of the lake, and will take focus on a stretch of shallow water.

Ms Payne was 18-years-old when she went missing on 14 December, more than 23 years ago. Her body has never been found.

Two men arrested in December 2013 have denied murdering the mother-of-one and are being held on remand to face trial in October.

Detective Inspector Martin Slevin, who is leading the investigation, said: "Two people have been charged with the murder of Nicola Payne and are currently remanded into custody awaiting trial.

"The investigation into what happened to Nicola remains on-going and officers will continue to follow-up any information which will help us find Nicola and bring closure to her family."

If anyone has any information which may assist the inquiry, please contact the investigation team on 101 or call Crimestoppers confidentially on 0800 555 11.
