Cyclists Shut Down London Junction Following Eight Death

Hundred of cyclists brought traffic to a standstill at Bank Junction in London to protest the eight cycling death this year.

Cyclists blocked all six arms of the junction for fifteen minutes at 08:30 on Wednesday morning.

They were protesting following the death of Ying Tao, who was involved in a collision with a lorry on Monday while cycling to work.

The London Cycling Campaign, which organised the protest, is calling for segregated space for cyclists on London's roads.

New Jobs Promised For Fife

New jobs have been promised for Fife by salmon supplier Marine Harvest, after confirmation of a major supermarket contract.

The company has said that it will be stepping up production after being chosen to supply salmon to Sainsbury's.

Marine Harvest have won the contract previously held by Young's Seafood.

Bendy Buses Ruled To Expensive To Run

Swansea Council has taken to the decision to scrap the city's bendy buses, which it claims is too expensive to run.

The buses were introduced six years ago and led to controversial changes in the city's road system.

The council has said that terminating the buses would help it improve traffic flow along with its plans to regenerate the city centre.

Man Charged With Sexual Assaults On Public Transport
A man has been charged with two counts of sexual assault on public transport in Tower Hamlets earlier this year. Sadikur Rahman, 40, of Shrewsbury Road, Forest Gate, has been charged in connection with two incidents on route 339 buses in Tower Hamlets.

£913m Cycling Plan Revealed For London
London cyclists have cause for celebration, as mayor Boris Johnson has revealed a £913m, 10-year plan to encouraging cycling in the City. Mr Johnson said he wanted to 'de-Lycrafy' cycling through the measures, which will see the construction of an unbroken network of cycle routes, including segregated lanes.

Man Jailed For Attempted Murder Of Pc
A south London man has been jailed for 25 years for tying to shoot a policeman. Michael Mitchell, 32, of Babington Road, Streatham, was convicted of attempting to murder Pc Shaun Callow, possession of a firearm and possession of drugs with intent to supply.

Formula 1 Flywheel Technology To Be Trialed On London Buses
A fuel-saving device developed for Formula One is to be fitted to six prototype buses. With estimated fuel savings of up to 30% the flywheel was developed by Williams F1, for use in its racing cars but after a regulation change in the sport it could no longer be used. Now the technology is to be retrofitted to a small test number of London buses.

Routemaster Bus Makes London Debut
The new Routemaster bus has made its maiden voyage this morning in London. Mayor Boris Johnson had announced plans in 2008 for the hybrid buses, which run on a diesel-electric motor. In total 8 buses will run on route 38, from Victoria Station in Central London to Hackney in the east.
