Suicide bomb blasts rock Baghdad

Two suicide car bomb blasts have killed at least 15 people and injured more than 30 others, the Iraqi interior ministry has said.

Reports on the ground say that two suicide bombers set off their explosives in quick succession close to a ministry building in the centre of the city and that a group with links to al-Qaeda may have carried out the attacks.

The bombs exploded in the city around mid-morning. The street on which the attacks took place was busy and some witness reports indicated that children and police officers were among the dead.

Four policemen were reportedly killed in Kirkuk today in a drive-by shooting at a police station.

A police patrol near Baquba also came under attack by gunfire – one police officer was killed and three others were injured.
