Britain braces itself for severe gales
A "vigorous autumn storm" has been forecast to arrive in the UK on Saturday, bringing severe gales to many parts of Britain, the Met Office has warned.
The storm is expected to develop over the eastern Atlantic during Friday and the areas most likely to be affected are Wales, the Midlands and northern and eastern counties of England. The Met Office warned that "very strong and potentially damaging south-westerly gales" reaching up to 75mph are possible.
However, forecasters said that the precise path that the storm would take remained uncertain.
Although the very strong winds are expected to be the main concern, the storm is also expected to bring heavy rain and an increased risk threat of flooding.

First autumn storm expected
The first storm of autumn will hit northern and western parts of Britain on Thursday night and Friday morning Met Office forecasters warned today. Major storm predicted to hit Scotland
Severe weather warnings are in place in northwest Scotland, as a major storm is predicted to hit the region later on today. The Met Office said that “exceptionally strong winds”, with gusts of between 70 – 90mph, were forecast to affect parts of Scotland, northwest of the Great Glen, on Monday evening and overnight.
