Police search for escaped London prisoner
A violent prisoner from Wormwood Scrubs has absconded after an ambulance taking him to hospital was held up at gunpoint.
Police are searching for inmate Joe Farnan who escaped while on the way to Hammersmith Hospital after two men wearing balaclavas, one brandishing a handgun, held up the ambulance and threatened his three guards. They were forced to unlock Farnan's handcuffs and he was taken to a waiting car, believed to be a silver coloured Volvo.
Farnan, who is serving a sentence for robbery and possession of a firearm, had faked a collapse while in prison.
Police said that he should be considered dangerous and should not be approached.
The 27-year-old inmate has made off on two previous occasions. In May 2000 he escaped from a prison van and was recaptured three months later. In 2001 he escaped from Standford jail where he was being held after being convicted on robbery charges and firearms offences.
Anyone sighting Farnan should contact police immediately.

A £10,000 reward has been offered in exchange for information leading to the recapture of escaped convicted killer Lerone Boye. 27-year-old Boye was jailed for 28 years for the 2011 stabbing death of a 17-year-old-boy. Police Search For Escaped Murder Suspect
A search is underway after a murder suspect has escaped from a mental health unit. John Clayton, 28, escaped from the Springfield Hospital in Wandsworth, south London late on Tuesday evening, Metropolitan Police said. Mr Clayton was charged with a murder in Bath in April and was being held at the hospital for a psychiatrist assessment.

Escaped Prisoners Sought By Police
Police in Derbyshire are continuing to search for three men who absconded from HMP Sudbury open prison. Lee Anthony Mulholland, 28, from Liverpool, absconded from the prison on December 14. He was sentenced to five years for drug offences at Liverpool Crown Court last November.

Police have arrested a convicted armed robber on suspicion of escaping from a prison van on his way back to jail last week. Craig Hickinbottom, 24, was arrested at a house in Smethwick in the West Midlands on Thursday.
