Joey Barton Charged With Assault
Premiership footballer Joey Barton has been charged with assault following a training ground bust-up with a former teammate.
The 24-year-old former Manchester City midfielder is accused of attacking Ousmane Dabo at the club's training ground in Carrington, south Manchester on May 1.
Mr Barton was suspended by Manchester City following the alleged incident and then sold to Newcastle United.
Mr Barton, who has been capped once for England, has denied the charge. He was arrested and released on bail in May, while further inquiries were made.
He will now appear at Trafford Magistrates' Court on August 9.

Premier League footballer Joey Barton has been released from jail after serving just over two months of a six-month sentence for assault. Barton, of Huyton, in Merseyside, served 74 days of his six-month sentence for attacking a teenager in Liverpool in December last year.

Premiership footballer Joey Barton is understood to have been arrested on suspicion of assault and criminal damage. The Manchester City midfielder is reported to have been questioned in connection with an alleged argument with a taxi driver in the Wavertree area of Liverpool earlier this month.
