Army Officer Arrested Over Sandhurst Cadet Attack

An army officer has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a female cadet was found with critical injuries.

The 22-year-old female cadet was taken to Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey on Thursday morning with serious head injuries.

It is believed she had fallen from the third floor of the military academy in Camberley.

The female cadet's condition is believed to be critical but not life-threatening.

The 25-year-old officer is being questioned at Maidenhead Police station.

A Ministry of Defence spokesperson said: "She is believed to have fallen from the third floor of the building. She was taken to Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey at just after 4am last night.

"At 1.55pm, the Ministry of Defence Police arrested a 25-year-old male, a member of the Armed Forces, on suspicion of attempted murder."

Brusthom Ziamani was carrying a 12 inch knife, a hammer and an Islamic flag at the time of his arrested in east London in August 2014. Police investigating the murder of a teenage Army cadet have arrested three more people. Joseph Lappin, 16, from Old Swan, died in hospital on October 20, after he was stabbed in the heart outside a youth club in Everton. He and two friends had been chased by a crowd of up to 15 people and attacked on the steps of Shrewsbury House Youth Club.

Female Police Officer Injured In Shooting
A female police officer has been injured in a shooting in Leeds. At around 4am on Wednesday morning, West Yorkshire Police said two officers had been called to a disturbance in Cardigan Road, Hyde Park. They were confronted by a man at a property and a gun was fired.

CoE Most Senior Female Bishop To Be Consecrated
The Church of England's most senior female bishop is to be consecrated at Canterbury Cathedral. The Reverend Rachel Treweek, 52, is to become the new Bishop of Gloucester. Archdeacon Treweek is succeeding The Right Reverend Michael Perham, who retired in 2014. She will be the first woman to run a diocese and will be one rank below archbishop.
