Appeal For Witnesses After Racially Motivated Assault In Belfast
Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was racially abused and assaulted in Belfast city centre in the early hours of Sunday 2nd February.
The incident occurred in the Royal Avenue area when the victim, a man in his 20s, was walking with two others.
Sergeant Kennedy said: "It was reported that two men and a woman were walking in the Royal Avenue area when they were approached by a group of people who directed verbal racial abuse towards one of the men, aged in his 20s, before pushing him and assaulting him."
The victim was knocked unconscious and sustained injuries to his eye and cheek, requiring hospital treatment. Police are treating the incident as a racially motivated hate crime and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
"Our enquiries to establish the circumstances of this report, which we are treating as a racially motivated hate crime, are ongoing," said Sergeant Kennedy.
"We are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed what happened, or who has any information which could assist us, to get in touch."

The man received cuts to his head and above his eye, before the culprits made off towards the Crumlin Road area.

Windows Smashed In Hate Crime Attack
Police have launched an investigation after the windows of a house were smashed in a 'hate crime' attack in Newtownabbey. Three windows were smashed at the property in Cloyne Crescent at around 11.30pm on Sunday. A man and a woman were in the house at the time.
