Investigation Launches After North Belfast Shooting

Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a shooting in North Belfast on Tuesday evening, 27 January.

The PSNI received a report shortly before 8pm that the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service was treating a man for gunshot wounds in Strathroy Park. The victim, who is in his late 30s, sustained a single gunshot wound to each leg. He was subsequently transported to hospital for medical attention.

Detective Sergeant Long stated that while the victim's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, they are "severe" and expected to result in lasting physical and emotional trauma.

"Officers remain at the scene tonight, carrying out enquiries," Detective Sergeant Long confirmed. "Local residents will notice a heavy police presence in the area. This attack has caused fear and disruption in the very community those responsible for this criminal act claim to protect."

The police have emphasised that there is no justification for such violence and are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.

"Anyone who witnessed what happened or has information that could help with our enquiries is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 1609 27/01/26," added Detective Sergeant Long.

Investigators are particularly interested in any dash-cam, CCTV, or mobile phone footage captured in the vicinity of Strathroy Park around the time of the incident.

Information can also be provided through the PSNI's online reporting form at www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/ or anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
