Roslea Parade Defies Law

With parades very much on the agenda this week, unionist fury over an illegal parade in the Fermanagh border village of Rosslea on Saturday has upped the ante.

Apparently without notification to the Parades Commission or to police, the march took place at 8pm centred around a monument close to the border erected in memory of IRA man Seamus McIlwaine who was shot dead in Rosslea in the 1980s by the SAS.

In the same incident his associate Sean Lynch was injured. The pair had been attempting to detonate a landmine in an attack on an Army patrol.

Controversially Mr Lynch, who subsequently served time in the Maze jail for his involvement, has now joined Fermanagh District Policing Partnership.

However, it is not known whether Mr Lynch, who remains a member of Sinn Fein, attended the weekend parade.

Locals said that the traffic had to be diverted because of the illegal parade.
